If only elected reps ran to comfort and aid the rest of us like they do business execs.
Did any of these governors condemn all the “your body my choice” harassment? Are there any task forces that have been put together to protect public health advocates against all the explicit threats?
I noticed that Governor Hochul rushed to comfort and soothe business elites, promising to do everything to protect them. Elected politicians don't ever rush to comfort me at all. I’m lucky if I get a canned response that vaguely matches the issue I’ve written about. Let alone to have public officials denouncing threats to my safety.
New Crisis Hotline for CEOs? Governor of New York wants to protect CEOs Ken Klippenstein Dec 16, 2024 New York state is considering creating a special hotline exclusively for CEOs to report perceived threats, CNN reported this morning. Nice little reminder of just how responsive government can be when it comes to corporate executives. Coming at the heels of the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the proposal is a sign of the acute concern by government officials when it comes to business executives — even though there have not been any other documented attacks on CEOs and the alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione, has been arrested.

"Demonization of corporate executives is not new," said Kathy Wylde, CEO and president of the Partnership for New York, who's leading outreach for the meeting. politico.com/newsletters State officials want to calm the nerves of New York City's business elite after the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson sent shockwaves through the corporate world. Gov. Kathy Hochul will broker a virtual meeting Tuesday with state law enforcement officials and about 175 corporate representatives to discuss sharing security resources. State Director of Operations Kathryn Garcia is managing the effort, and Kathy Wylde the CEO and president of the Partnership for New York City - has been the business world's point person. In an interview Thursday with MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Hochul said the meeting will be "proactive." State officials plan to show how they can provide law enforcement intelligence in case a specific sector is being targeted. "We protect everybody on the streets of New York, not just CEOs," Hochul said. "Everybody deserves the protection of our law enforcement."
My letter to reps:
I noticed that Democratic Party politician and governor of New York, Kathy Hochul rushed to comfort and soothe New York City's business elites, offering all sorts of taxpayer funded resources, promising to do everything to protect them. I heard that Democratic Party politician and governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro has been emotionally speaking out on behalf of big business condemning anyone who’s not crying about some guy nobody even knew who worked for a massively powerful and rich company most of us can’t stand. You can tell people to shut up, and authoritarians can use the power of the state to shut people up, make people’s lives miserable, or worse — but you can’t make people not feel something, or make me feel something that I don’t.
I can’t help but notice that my elected representatives don’t rush to comfort and protect me like this. Elected officials don't rush to commend me and denounce threats to me like this. Did any of these governors condemn all the “your body my choice” harassment? If so, point me to it because it’s not on the news 24/7 like the cooing and soothing of business executives is. Certainly I haven’t heard it blasted all over all the arrests that were made for all the “your body my choice” threats, some reportedly in schools! Where are those arrests? I’ve yet to see any news coverage of any condemnation of it even.
I’ve been threatened, told to commit suicide, trolled online, stalked in person, assaulted, and one time had people driving past my house yelling crazy stuff after a right-wing blogger doxxed me because I was quoted in the local newspaper. Nobody was arrested, in these situations, or many other threatening situations that I’ve endured over the decades as a woman in America. I’ve always been told nothing could be done. I guess that was a lie, it was just that no authorities wanted to help me.
Nobody suggested using counterintelligence resources to combat potentially violent wackadoo anti-maskers. Where have all these resources been to defend and promote public health? Instead, they’re banning masks and making it so people who need or want to wear respirators in public are getting confronted with harassment by strangers, or even police action. Explicit threats have been made that vaccine advocates are going to be targeted with home raids by anti-vaxxers “deputized at the county level” and nobody is chastising those threats 24/7 on cable news or in the fancy media op-eds. A letter to the editor was published in our local newspaper on the anniversary of January 6th this year naming progressives as “the named enemy of Jesus” and making threats toward anyone who “stands with” progressives. The newspaper not only published that threat, but used a really provocative headline for it, calling progressives “subversives” who are against the “real” Catholics. Nobody in local leadership has denounced that dangerous speech that I’ve ever heard about. Nobody is assuring me that the county government isn’t going to deputize anti-vaxxers for some kind of a genocide against the vaccinated. Nobody’s making assurances for my safety. Nobody in the halls of power seems to be speaking out against that madness. Where are all these officials creating task forces to protect public health advocates?
Direct threats, often credible, not uncommonly resulting in harm, go unremedied — and even unremarked. Where are the elected representatives reaching out to people like me to ask if we’re ok? Who’s reaching out to us ordinary people to make sure we have everything we need? Why aren’t elected representatives organizing virtual advocacy meetings to make sure that ordinary people can share resources and get help from the government to protect ourselves against the myriad of threats and problems we face every damned day? Why haven’t elected officials been organizing advocacy for the many harmed by the health insurance companies for that matter?
It sure seems suspicious that politicians rush to help, comfort, and fund, rich people and just largely ignore the problems of the rest of us, or tell us to wait for something to trickle down to us. Democratic politicians recently celebrated giving $5 million in corporate welfare "handouts" to a bank here in Scranton while numerous incidents of harassment, environmental issues, health threats, and economic injustices fester unabated, and that happened ironically just days after the election when elites were seemingly cluelessly asking the question "Why did working class people not come out to vote for Democrats in the election?" Yeah, I wonder why!
Who is protecting me? Who represents us?
I think we need better representation, don’t you?
