Is the Clifton Township PA data center project planning on crypto printing?
What else don’t we know about data center projects in the works?
The most striking thing about a recent Times-Tribune article was the news that the Clifton Township data center project had planned on having a nuclear reactor, and seemingly used that as leverage to force their plans through.
But another thing that I feel like isn’t getting addressed at all, other than by me screaming into the void, is that a lot of the small acreage plots being proposed for data center projects are actually too small to make sense for ai projects.

Don’t Wait For Everybody - Episode 031 Chloe Humbert Nov 22, 2025 A whole lot of the plots of land in the county where I live that are being proposed for data centers they’re not they’re not big enough for ai data centers like for example mark zuckerberg’s meta data center in rural louisiana uh they say that it’s going to be the size of manhattan there’s no room for that in Archbold Pennsylvania sandwiched between a luxury townhome development and Ed staback park uh so they’re likely crypto data centers being proposed here uh the kind that are making people’s lives hell with noise in other states. And the other piece of evidence they’re probably looking to make crypto printing data centers in Lackawanna County is that one of the business partners involved with these proposed projects, quote, told the Times-Tribune his interest in data centers stems from a Bitcoin mining hobby, unquote.
The data center proposed in Clifton and Covington is together 1,000 acres. So we might assume that this one is actually big enough for AI. I’m not sure we should assume that. The name of the proposed data center is “Project Gold” as referenced in the Times-Tribune article. Calling it “Project Gold” sure makes it sound to me like they are planning this data center to do cryptocurrency printing, as they call it “mining” - the process of cryptocurrency creation via computing. This is something I object to, but it seems quite clear that it was deliberate PR messaging to equate crypto with gold in people’s minds, to make it seem more tangible and legitimate.
Don’t repeat crypto propaganda buzzwords. Don’t Wait For Everybody - Episode 020 Chloe Humbert Apr 17, 2025 third... about that related is that they deliberately use that term mining to make it sound like they have something the equivalent of gold because these people are gold bugs. So they want to say that government issued money is not real, but gold is. And so then that’s how they make it sound like it’s a legitimate thing. So that’s another reason I don’t say mining.
All these people involved, including our elected representatives, may be required to keep any of this secret via NDAs, so how would we even know what these projects are really for anyway? And they may all be speculation anyway!
