It's a mistake to assume any of it is a mistake.
They really are actual eugenicists. Didn't those salutes tip you off?
I want everyone to stop here and consider that what's described is not actually a mistake.
ProPublica - A Study of Mint Plants. A Device to Stop Bleeding. This Is the Scientific Research Ted Cruz Calls “Woke.” The senator flagged thousands of National Science Foundation grants for using words like “female” and “diversify.” A ProPublica analysis found numerous examples of projects caught up in his crude method for identifying research he calls “woke.” by Agnel Philip and Lisa Song Feb. 28, 2025, 5 a.m. EST Developing a device that could treat severe bleeding. It seems to have caught the committee’s attention for using the words “victims” — as in gunshot victims — and “trauma.” Creating biosensors to detect infectious diseases. The grant appears to have been tagged for the repeated use of “POC,” an acronym often used for “people of color” but in this context meaning “point of care” — that is, the place where people receive medical treatment — and “barrier,” referring to a part of the biosensor itself. Designing eye-tracking technology for diagnosing and treating concussions. It appears to have gotten flagged for referencing “traumatic” brain injuries and the “status,” meaning the condition, of patients. It’s “very frightening,” said Charlotte Lindqvist, a biology professor at the University at Buffalo who is conducting the research on mint plants. Lindqvist spends hours a day grinding up plant samples and analyzing their DNA to identify genetic differences between species. Studying plant diversity, she said, could help secure more resilient food systems.
I realize it's tempting to want to jeer about "crude sweep" that drags in all and sundry, and assume these people are so stupid they don't understand multiple meanings of words. I think doing that reveals that some actually agree with right-wingers about SOME of the bigotry. In other words that if you come to this believing that some trauma is bullshit, and that some focus on diversity or barriers is woke garbage, and believing that victimhood should be a disparaged… Then maybe you can be fooled into thinking this "war on woke" is just really a war on what you think is really out there too.
But the truth is that this is exactly the ideology of eugenics in action, and that within that all these things getting caught up in this makes sense.
They see victims of violence as weak – Trump said it of John Mccain, remember? Why are you surprised that they are targeting gunshot victims when they're so pro-gun they want criminals to have them and cheer "vigilantes" that shoot people? Of course they mock people with trauma, no matter what it's from, the idea that they somehow would actually be empathetic about some trauma is to assume this ideology isn't as extreme as it so obviously is. They're doing Nazi salutes, remember? They don't want plant diversity nor do they want resilient food systems because "lesser people" will survive if we can feed everyone – that won't do under a eugenics ideal they have in mind. I would not assume that the infectious diseases biosensor grant was tagged for "POC", because it's an infectious diseases research, and stopping that is right in line with what RFKJr has explicitly stated. RFKJr made it clear he wanted to halt projects on infectious diseases. Did you think they were kidding?
I'm really worried about people who are grasping at straws to just say these people are being sloppy, or that they're stupid, or that they're just terminally online. All those things are true. But they've also said outright that they love guns, they deny infectious diseases even exist in some cases, and they hate people having healthcare or food. There's absolutely no reason to think this stuff is merely them going overboard, and that they'll just right it once they know it's not really about trans kids in sports. Because I have news for you – it's not even about just trans kids in sports – it's about trans people existing in the world and being allowed to live their lives. They tricked a lot of people into thinking "maybe they have a point" with some of this stuff by twisting it up. But really, they literally want infectious disease to spread. This isn't a mistake, they've said so.
