Supplements need regulation!
Defeat the right-wing step 2 according to It Could Happen Here podcast…
Nobody should be getting adulterated vitamins or substances that are not safe.
It Could Happen Here Podcast - How to Stop the Far Right in Three Easy Steps September 9, 2024 • 30 mins Mia and Robert discuss an unlikely electoral program to defeat the far right: an MLM crackdown, supplement regulations, and legalizing direct car sales.
Even if this doesn’t defeat the right-wing, it’s the right thing to do, because for pity’s sake I am so exhausted by overpriced products that have no standards, and might be adulterated or counterfeit. And especially the sheer volume of pseudoscience quackery involved in selling all and sundry products. It’s bonkers level, and I’m not even listening to the right-wing shows that really hammer people with ads for this stuff including bizarre dangerous stuff, like Alex Jones, or basically any streamed event involving Donald Trump. But even lefties sometimes promote these things. The sheer volume of marketing of sketchy claims and unproven covid prophylactics and long covid remedies that I hear about online is dizzying.
My letter to reps:
So many things are on the market that are not regulated but should be, such as nutritional products, herbs, botanicals, dietary supplements, and vitamins. And there’s no way to even be sure these things are what they claim to be. They can be adulterated, or ill-formulated, or even counterfeits, but we can’t know for sure what’s what. Who’s overseeing this? Nobody apparently! And I’m sick of the product cults constantly invading every social space with high pressure manipulative sales tactics. Sometimes these things are already proven ineffective, or in some cases are unsafe. Supplements are health products and they need to be regulated like it.
Feel free to use my example for your own letters to your elected representatives.
